I saw a video on youtube about the Chili Line, and I felt a lot of emotion when my brain taught in these area and how people were travelling by train at this time.

I am the son of lowell talashoma sr. and it is really nice to see my fathers work on this page. just seeing it brings me good memories . the memories i always cherish is sitting next to him watching him carve. almost all carvings that i see when he gets done with one, i always have to study it and look at all the detail he puts on his carvings. i always want to own one of his carvings, but he sells it before i ask him if i could keep one. i thank you for sharing and showing the work his done in his past. my father will always be missed.

MM, Many thanks. Well yes... you did discover my work at the 1978 Armory show. It was my first public showing. At the time I was working a full time job but was compelled to be creative by producing art at home in the evening. Just after the Armory show I started showing in a Santa Fe gallery, and shortly after quit the full time job to focus on my art. That was over 30 years ago. I continue to love interpreting the beauty I see here in NM, and out there in the world at large.
I remember Jim from high school. He was talented then adn is talented now. His paintings are so beautiful and takes you back to a time that our parents went through. Simply beautiful!
Had the pleasure of meeting Hyrum Joe while in Santa Fe around the 17th of August 2010 while he was completing a wonderful trading post painting. His work is delightfully historic, telling a wonderful story with great artistic skill. He noted that E Foutz had helped his father at the Shiprock Trading Post as he began his creation of his wonderful, prize winning works. A young man with great skill & soul.

Randall LaGro's work is really fantastic. I was forunate to visit his studio years ago when I attended a class at the Taos Institute of Art. I was then, and remain inspired by his work.

I am a native Santa Fean who has always had an intense appreciation for the beauty of New Mexico. It was in my early twenties that I first came into contact with Doug West's work.
When I saw his images I was blown away -- the vision and beauty of his art resonated with my own visceral experiences of this landscape we call the Land of Enchantment. Since that time my love for his work has grown in ever increasing levels of appreciation.

The wine bottle was an amazing depiction of the experience of addiction - the illusion of sharing what becomes a private hell. I really liked the shots of the body of Jesus with the artist's face superimposed and very ethereal, and then the very down to earth close ups of the artist's hands working with his materials - it was very satisfying.

I really like combination of color and form (be it fluid, solid, solemn, mysterious, or lively), as complemented by each of their names. They all paint vivid pictures in my imagination -- brings me back to the wonderfully simple but strikingly organic movement in some Sesame Street's animation segments that I still remember to this day.

Thanks Paulette for your comment. This was a first for me, and a lot of fun. Of course by virtue of the size of this canvas, it remains in progress still. But the beauty of the videos produced by Blue Rain Gallery is they offer a glimpse of artist's studios and their individual creative process... a view collectors rarely see.

#1. Tony Abeyta is one of my favorite artists, if not my favorite. Every brush stroke seems to have meaning. #2. His technique seems in harmony with his subject matter, and his subjects resonate for anyone who loves the southwest. #3. I hope he does more large canvases like the one in the video!

How interesting and fun to see how these amazing pots are fired! I was thinking that it would be a great video to show in a high school art class. I'm assuming that the fire is put out with the sand to allow the pot to cool slowly so that it doesn't crack.

As this was my first viewing of shelley muzylowski allen's art, I loved what for me was a surprise ending. I have seen glass artists at work before, and so was very impressed by the physicality and scale of the process. What really struck me was the simultaneous sponteneity (now, that's what I saw; perhaps every possible dribble was under control.) and deliberateness of the process. In my mind I "saw" the final result ... Alchemy! Magic! Not what was in my mind at all! Ah Ha! Beautiful. Thank you for the show!

Les's pots are wonderful! We can't be in Santa Fe this summer : between Mom's dying and the re-opening of our burned facility we have to stick closer to home. What can we do?

Wonderful work. Technical expertise combined with a sense of whimsy are a winning combination in my book.
When I viewed the video clips of my neighbor Deborah Rael-Buckley on this site, I was struck by all that her art form demands of her. The physicality of her whole body as she moves around her creation, bending over it, molding it, her arms and hands building, layering, and smoothing it; a disciplined technical skill required to control what could be a run-away process; a mental and spiritual concentration exacted to “gather the images” from memory and even from what has been forgotten; and a keen presence to be at one with what is becoming in her studio: all signs of a master ceramicist.
When I first stepped into Deborah’s studio a few years ago, I stood before a ceramic sculpture in tribute to her father-in-law who had died from cancer, as my father recently had. Her sculpture held memories and symbols so powerfully present and real in all of their dimensions, that all I could manage to do, was to turn around and walk back home accompanied by my father, remembering him again, and how much I had loved him and still do.

This moves me. It really connects with me.
I am amazed by the depth of meaning within the pieces that Deborah Rael-Buckley creates. She creates these sculptures that are life sized without any internal support system. They have so many hiddent meanings that relate to her background, New Mexico culture and life in general. They are incredibly rich and beautiful. The colors and shapes make them unique on their own but there is this deeper message that lies beneath the surface that waits to be interpreted. I happen to be an owner and and am always surprised at the reaction generated when people encounter Deborah's art for the first time. Once people get beyond the sheer beauty of the sculpture they ask numerous questions about the symbolism incorporated within the piece. She is able to mesh earthy beauty with commentary on life.
Father and Son -- Simply stated, Genius!
In 1994, a young 27 year old female was awarded "The Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts" to include "The Allan Houser Memorial Award". I would think that she was the "youngest" to receive such a high honor. This artist that I am speaking of is, Cheryl Joe, an absolutely excellent sculptor! I wish you all the best for also winning such a high honor. Congratulations!

Very beautiful work. It has some of the charactristics of a self-taught artist but the style is very personal because of the subject matter, but the landscapes are very sophisticated. Wonderful execution.

I do wish that galleries and museums would stop assuming that everyone who buys art is a "collector." Many occasional buyers of art (my wife and I included) buy what we see thatt we like and can afford at the time. To buy is not necessarily to "collect."
Thanks for the "4 points" on buying. Now...how about elaborating a bit on each. That would be great. For instance, What is the significance of the number of pieces the artist produces each year? What does one look for to see if a piece is well made? What do you mean by "pricing integrity"?
