A traghetto is a stripped-down gondola used as a cheap way to cross the canals in Venice. My interpretation of the Traghetto is filled with a symbolic 10 characters, as in the Council of Ten; the secretive governing body that ruled Venice for centuries. Intentionally there is no one rowing or steering this craft. The characters are covered in long coats and appear cold. The craft is placed on a derrick-like structure as its base. This platform structure is commonly associated with wells for oil or water. The structure symbolizes man's need and use of the earth's resources, it is combined with an overpopulated, precarious and un-piloted craft.
