Hand Blown Glass by Sean O誰eill

Sedge
blown, engraved and slumped glass
21.5 x 21.5 x 4.75

Though Santa Fe enjoys a little slumber during the winter months, things really heat up for many of Blue Rain Gallery痴 artists用articularly for glass artist, Sean O誰eill. The blown, carved, and slumped bowl with offset radiating lines above is one example of three fabulous new pieces in the gallery by this artist. O誰eill痴 opaque glass bowls are largely informed by nature. After a residency in Scotland back in 2006, O誰eill began to perfect the circular canvases he has become known for today. The cold-working is an integral aspect of the work; it seeks to replicate the erosive patterns found in nature. The idea is basic, yet profound. The composition is minimal, yet rich in detail. Recently honored with placement in the New Glass Review 30, an annual publication put out by the Corning Museum of Glass in which a select group of glass artists from around the world are represented each year, O誰eill takes his place as a vital young voice in the studio glass movement.
