Neo Traditional: Making History Now
Tammy Garcia’s August 2012 Pottery Collection and Sale
Tammy Garcia, once again, produced an exceptional pottery show this past August for our annual celebration of contemporary Native American Art. Long at the forefront of a revolution in Pueblo pottery, Tammy continues to deliver stunning pottery vessels that successively raise the bar on technical prowess and expand the expectations of what is possible to achieve in natural clay. Her unbounded creativity masterfully manifests through the exactitude with which she handles the medium. The process involved in creating a body of work of such high-caliber is incredibly time-consuming and demands absolute precision—therefore, it is not surprising that the ten vessels presented this year took her nine months to produce.
Tammy’s diverse new exhibit showed a broad range of inspiration, drawing upon years of research and experimentation. Most of the new vessels featured elaborate lids, or stoppers, which Garcia notes were very difficult for her to execute in the early days of her career. After years of refining her techniques, the lids this year were a crowning achievement and, in fact, she challenged herself further by…
Primitive – Elegant II
Blue Rain Gallery experienced huge success with the release of Primitive – Elegant II: A collaboration between Preston Singletary and Dante Marioni
It was a near sell-out show on the opening weekend of Primitive – Elegant II at the Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe. The gallery was full of clamoring collectors and art enthusiasts alike—many of which were astounded by the extraordinary twenty-two piece collection of blown glass sculpture sharing the signature aesthetic trademarks of each artist. Building upon what they began over a year ago in the release of Primitive-Elegant I, Singletary and Marioni achieved an evident aesthetic harmony in their new work and had a lot of laughs along the way! Download and enjoy this pdf of the brochure for the show, cataloging the entire collection, or call the gallery to have one mailed directly to you.
Also, a special congratulations to Dante Marioni, recipient of this year’s American Craft Council College of Fellows award. The award honors those who have demonstrated outstanding artistic achievement, leadership, and service in the craft field. The award will be presented at SOFA Chicago as part of the Aileen Osborn Webb Awards program.

Tony Abeyta Receives the 2012 Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts
Established in 1974 by Governor Bruce King and First Lady Alice King, the prestigious Governor’s Arts Awards celebrate both artists and art supporters for the role they play in the cultural and economic life of New Mexico. The awards are presented yearly to living artists as well as supporters of the arts who have demonstrated lifetime achievement in their art form or their special contributions to the arts in New Mexico. Tony Abeyta is the second Blue Rain Gallery artist to receive this honor in recent years, and we couldn’t be more excited for him! Currently, we have a gorgeous monumental sized landscape painting by Tony in the gallery—fresh from the artist’s studio (image below).
