“Right to Be”
This painting shows the contrast of vibrant color which represents traditional homelands split in two. The middle basket is a traditional butterfly basket design, and the movement of the line work represents indigenous people migrating north for a better life, but it also represents those O’odham on the Mexico side who are unable to visit villages and family to the north. In the end, it is about holding onto to a legacy and dignity while trying to survive and move forward in a current state of chaos.
