Traffic

Acrylic, aerosol, & ink on canvas, 30"h x 24"w, Item No. 16738,

“Traffic”

Human trafficking is a disturbing reality on the southern borders, as well as ocean ports on coastal US cities. Traffic is blend of a traditional O’odham story about a young man who is turned into a dragonfly so he could fly away freely. In the middle of this piece is a basket design with coyote tracks. Along the southern border there are traffickers who are dubbed as “Coyotes” who bring unaware migrants across, mostly by extortion. In this piece the dragonflies above the basket represent the freedom, while in the middle are the coyotes and below are those desperately trying to get to the other side.
