In this body of work, I’m continuing my focus on endangered species-with a specific focus on winged species- and climate change, as well as celebrating the beauty of the natural world. I also focus on indigenous populations- they tend to bear the brunt of climate change destruction and they also hold ancestral wisdom and practices used in caring for the land sustainably. In some of the work I’ve included flora and fauna native to both the human and non-human animals portrayed.
Climate change is the number one threat we face at the present time and thus I feel compelled to visually carry this message through my work. The current mass extinction event, a result of human-caused climate change, is something that I also feel compelled to document- my sincere hope is that I’m not painting species that will one day be gone from our world, but as a wake-up call to save them. We are all interconnected, we need each other- for healthy ecosystems and for survival. With awareness comes care, with care comes action.
