About Kathryn Waggener

Kathryn Waggener serves as the Executive Director of the Durango Creative District. She is a fine arts professional with a multi-faceted background as a painter, art historian, museum educator, gallerist, professor, and community organizer. After decades of working primarily in oil painting and woodcuts, Kathryn’s work has shifted almost exclusively to sumi ink with its endless tones of black and dynamic mark-making potential. Her ink paintings explore desert flora and fauna of the Southwest, highlighting lessons to be learned through their resilience in the face of environmental hardship.
