Louisa Palmer

Louisa Palmer is a contemporary folk artist and illustrator whose work weaves together the playful and the profound. Drawing inspiration from traditional ta!oo imagery, feminine iconography, Slavic and Norse folklore, and the high desert landscapes of the American West, Louisa’s art explores storytelling through a bold, symbolic visual language. Her illustrations, block prints, and paintings are richly layered with color, emotion, and detail often depicting creatures and mythic landscapes in maximalist compositions. 

Louisa’s practice blends fine art and illustration, with a career that spans gallery exhibitions, public art installations, and collaborations with musicians and festivals. Her work is recognized for its narrative depth and striking visual identity equally suited to intimate pieces or large-scale designs for events and merchandise. 

Originally from the East Coast, Louisa has found a sense of home and belonging in the landscapes of the American West. She now lives and works in Durango, where she can be found exploring down dusty roads and trails with her dog. These travels, along with her childlike kinship with animals and a growing interest in ecology and interdependence, continue to shape her evolving body of work. Through her art, Louisa is constantly seeking the spaces where folklore, wildness, and the sacredness of everyday life converge.
